The Pharmacy Department inaugurated Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) services on April, 24th, 2017 at the new TPN Room on Level 4, San Fernando Teaching Hospital. TPN involves the compounding of admixtures comprising of basic nutrients, such as glucose, amino acids, fats and water. These are required for the growth and development of paediatric patients including those in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) when feeding cannot be done through the mouth. This preparation is done via a contamination-free technique using a laminar flow hood and is infused intravenously.
The South-West Regional Health Authority wishes to advise that health care services at the Couva District Health Facility (CDHF) will be temporarily closed from Friday 28th April, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to facilitate spraying of the facility.

The Pathology Lab at the San Fernando General Hospital will observe Medical Lab Professionals Week from Monday 24th to Friday 28th April, 2017 by hosting a series of developmental sessions and a career drive. These activities are geared towards highlighting advancements in testing, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and the importance of Laboratory workers in the health care environment.
The South-West Regional Health Authority wishes to advise that health care services at the Siparia District Health Facility (SDHF) will be temporarily closed from Friday 21st April, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to facilitate spraying of the facility.
During this time Primary Health Care Services can be accessed at the Fyzabad and Penal Health Centres:
- Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
Services at the SDHF will resume on Monday 24th April, 2017 at 8:00 a.m.
