The Trinidad and Tobago Association for the Improvement of Mental Health, was launched on the 4th of August, 2017. This advocacy group aims to promote human rights and reduce stigma and discrimination against persons with mental disorders. Their mission entails the promotion of Mental Health Awareness so that persons can experience a high quality of life. The members of this group comprise Imam Sheraz Ali, Pandit Avinash Maharaj, Dr Darin Mohammed, Mrs. Andrea Ragoonath-Gopaul, as well as Ms. Caron Asgarali. In attendance at the launch, was Mrs.
On Wednesday August 2nd, 2017, the second annual Infant and Young Child Feeding Seminar, hosted by staff of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, was held in Conference Room A, Level 4, San Fernando Teaching Hospital. This year, the objective of the seminar was, to provide educational guidelines for Nursing and Medical Students regarding optimal nutrition for the paediatric population from birth to five years of age. Breastfeeding and pregnancy topics were addressed, including the benefits of having an exclusively breast-fed baby.
On 26th July 2017, the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, continued his tour of the public hospitals with a visit to the San Fernando General Hospital. Minister Deyalsingh and members of the Ministry of Health’s Executive team met with the Board of Directors, the Executive, Technical and Operational staff of the South-West Regional Health Authority. At this meeting he facilitated open discussion about change management and improvement of service delivery.
