PRINCES TOWN DISTRICT HEALTH FACILITY (Accident & Emergency Department)
The staff at the Penal Rock Road Health Centre hosted a Easter Fruit Extravaganza on April 18th, 2019. The event comprised a lecture and demonstration on healthy eating from Dr. Sandi Arthur, Primary Care Physician II and Ms. Cynelle Vincent from Nutrition and Dietetics Department, as well as a Easter Hat parade. All participants were asked to incorporate fruits and vegetables into their traditional Easter Bonnet hat to raise awareness of healthy eating. Thirteen children between the ages of 6 months and 10 years paraded their healthy hats.
The Pathology Department launched Medical Laboratory Professionals Week celebrations with an Opening Ceremony at the Pathology Lab on April 23rd, 2019. Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is commemorated annually from April 22nd to 28th. The Week recognises the magnanimous contributions of laboratory professionals to healthcare institutions, highlights the vital role of pathologists and lab professionals to healthcare and patient advocacy and aims to increase the public awareness of their role in clinical diagnostics and medicine.
Members of the Rapidfire Kidz Foundation and their President, Mr. Kevin Ratiram visited the Paediatric Wards at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital on April 20th, 2019. The members of the Foundation aimed to treat children spending their Easter vacation on the three Paediatric Wards at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital. The group spread Easter cheer, by visiting the bedside of each child, interacted with parents and distributed toys to the 40 children on the Wards.
To commemorate Vaccination Week in the Americas, the staff at the Ste. Madeleine Health Centre held a Screening and Immunization session at the C3 Mall on April 23rd, 2019. Approximately 60 Persons visited the booth to receive blood sugar and blood pressure screening, HIV Testing and vaccinations. Dr. Sandi Arthur, Primary Care Practitioner II was also present to counsel to persons with elevated pressure and sugar testing.
Tuesday 16th April, 2019 marked the second day of a planned week of activities for the Adolescent Programme, taking place at the Moruga Health Centre. The programme, which caters to children from the Moruga Police Youth Club and the Moruga community, aims to address social and health issues which affect adolescents and encourage them to make healthy lifestyle choices. In the session held on Monday 15th April, 2019 the children were exposed to the topic of Sexuality and Teenage Pregnancy.

Health Advisory
“Give Blood. Give Life.” This was the tag line used to encourage SWRHA staff to donate blood at the SFGH Blood Bank’s Staff Blood Donation Drive, held on Saturday 13th April. Staff were warmly greeted by the nurses at the Blood Bank, sensitised through discussion and with educational material which provided details regarding what each person can expect when visiting the Blood Bank, the interview process, tips for a successful blood donation and responses to frequently asked questions.
