There is a preconceived notion that ‘Ignorance is bliss’. However, when it comes to HIV and AIDS, knowing your HIV status is better than going about life believing that HIV can never infect or affect you. If people are unaware that they are HIV positive, they will not seek treatment and are more likely to infect others. HIV, the virus that causes AIDS is no respecter of religion, sex, race, financial status, age, or moral upbringing. The stereotype that people living with HIV are sexually promiscuous can discourage people from seeking to know their status.
The Emergency Department, San Fernando General Hospital Trauma Workshop was held on Monday 25th February 2019 for Emergency Doctors, Primary Care Doctors and Trauma Nurses. This workshop was a reinforcement of the practices for stabilizing, diagnosing and treating trauma cases. The information imparted would help create a better understanding of the basic principles of wound management, demonstrate the basic techniques on suturing a wound and recognise some common and occult injuries on x-rays.

Response to Guardian Article: SWRHA offers treatment abroad for sick toddler
The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organisation hosted a sensitization workshop on Hansen’s Disease themed “You Role in Early Detection and Treatment” on Wednesday 20th February, 2019 at the Level 3 Conference Room, San Fernando Teaching Hospital. The Workshop was centred on strengthening the national framework for Hansen’s disease through the input of multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
