SWRHA Welcomes New Director

The South-West Regional Health Authority welcomes its new Director Ms. Juliana Lanying Chung. Director Chung was presented with her instrument of appointment on Tuesday 19th March, 2019 by Mrs. Valerie Alleyne-Rawlins, Chairman of the Board of Directors. She has been a member of the Lions Club of Les Efforts for over 30 years and has worked at the Banking Sector for over 35 years with ten years’ experience in Branch Management.

New Portable Ultrasound Scanner for SFGH/SFTH Obs & Gynae Department

On March 22nd, 2019 Specialists Medical Officers, Registrars and House Officers from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology were invited to attend a presentation and demonstration session of the Sun Bright Portable Ultrasound Scanner, the newest piece of equipment procured for the department. Mr. Ricardo Mohammed, Representative for Daylight Medical Limited was on hand to explain, demonstrate and field questions about the capabilities and functions of the scanner.

Promoting Kidney Health at SFGH

The Renal Department (Haemodialysis Unit, Nephrology, and Urology Department) at the San Fernando General Hospital celebrated World Kidney Day by hosting an outreach on March 13th, 2019 under the theme Kidney health for everyone everywhere. They joined with their international counterparts to raise awareness of the important function of kidneys and leading a healthy lifestyle.

The South-West Regional Health Authority joins the global community in recognising World Kidney Day, today, March 14th, 2019. World Kidney Day is a global awareness campaign which raises awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and the need to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide. Diabetes, hypertension, obesity, as well as infections such as HIV, malaria, tuberculosis and hepatitis are key risk factors for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
