Celebrating 100% Nurse at SFGH

As part of their Nurses Week observance the Nurses at San Fernando General Hospital hosted 100% Nurses on May 14th, 2019. It was a recognition of those nurses who had perfect attendance in 2018 and an opportunity for Nursing Administration to introduce their motto “Compassion in Action”.

Caroni South Cluster - Striving for Excellence in Nursing

In recognition of Nurses Week the Caroni South Cluster held their Nurses Day Celebration Striving for Excellence in Nursing on May 14th, 2019 at the Couva District Health Facility. It was a tribute to primary care nurses for their service and outstanding health promotion activities conducted at their centres within the cluster: Couva Primary Health Care, Flanagin Town, Gran Couva, Todds Road, Freeport and Tabaquite.

Tabaquite Health Centre celebrates Mothers

Staff at the Tabaquite Health Centre commemorated Mother’s Day 2019 by celebrating mothers during their Antenatal and Child Health Clinics on May 14th, 2019. Upon entering the Health Centre all mothers received corsages. Nursing staff engaged mothers in an interactive discussion and presentation centred on fever and the treatment of fever. Gifts were presented to the first mother to attend clinic, two mothers who consistently breastfed and mothers who completed accurately the questionnaire on fever.

Mother’s Day babies at SFGH

On Mother’s Day morning there were five babies born at the San Fernando General Hospital. The first baby was a boy born at 12:04 a.m. to Ms. Kizzy Hicks, the third baby was a girl born to first time mother Ms. Diana Gunness and at 11:05 a.m. Ms. Feresha Ramroop delivered a baby boy. The second and fourth babies were born at 3:35 a.m. and 7:18 a.m. respectively.

MLPW 2019 Cricket Tournament

The Pathology Laboratory culminated Medical Lab Professionals Week 2019 Activities with a Cricket Tournament at the Naparima College Cricket Grounds on April 27th, 2019. This event aimed to promote health and wellness, highlight the importance of physical fitness and foster team-building skills among SWRHA staff. Teams from the Electrical Department, Pathology Laboratory and a multidisciplinary team dubbed ‘Team Blazers’ bowled off to vie for a place in the final.

SWRHA launches new Mental Health Initiatives

On May 6th, 2019, the South-West Regional Health Authority’s Psychiatry Department launched two new initiatives aimed at raising the level of awareness about mental health issues among the population within SWRHA’s catchment area.

The first initiative involves an outreach to all Antenatal Clinics at SFTH (Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department), the DHFs and the thirty one Health Centres throughout SWRHA where Postpartum Depression will be discussed.
