Princes Town DHF celebrates Emancipation Day 2019

The Princes Town District Health Facility celebrated Emancipation Day on July 26th, 2019 with a lively programme to observe the contributions made by African ancestors to the culture and fabric of Trinidad and Tobago. Staff gathered to the call of the African drums and songs led by Mr. Twelde Matas, Health Records Clerk and his drumming team. The programme commenced with an interactive presentation from Dr. Kavi Ali, on Emancipation who highlighted the richness of the African heritage and the history of African slaves in Trinidad and Tobago.

Ste. Madeleine Health Centre Senior Citizens Recreation Group Emancipation Day Celebrations

Staff at the Ste. Madeleine Health Centre Staff joined members of their Senior Citizens Recreation Camp to commemorate Emancipation on July 30th, 2019.  Camp members were treated to a presentation by Ms. Jochelle Mohammed, Registered Dietitian and  Ms. Amrita Boodoosingh, Dietitian Intern, on hypertension, healthy eating and the components of a healthy diet. Artistes Ziggy Rankin, Del Toro, Ato, Rondell Donawa kept the audience engaged and entertained during their lively performances. Mr.

Supermarket Visits- Promoting Healthy Food Choices in Princes Town and C3

Supermarket visits continued in County Victoria at Harris Supermarket in Princes Town and JTA Supermarket, C3 Centre, on July 24th and July 31st, 2019, respectively. Nursing staff from the Lengua Health Centre and Pleasantville Health Centre joined Mr. Raffick Mohammed, Diabetic Educator, Ms. Cynelle Vincent and Ms. Maheshawarie Woodsley, Registered Dietitians as well as Aziza Barrington, Amrita Boodoosingh, Dietetic Interns in touring these supermarkets.

SWRHA Launches Three Smoking Cessation Clinics

Cigarette smoking is a universal concern as it plays a major role in addiction, as well as cardiovascular and lung disease. Studies have proven that cessation decreases health risks and improves overall health.  In light of this, the South-West Regional Health Authority’s Primary Health Care Department launched three Smoking Cessation Clinics at the C3 Centre on July 31st 2019.

Eastern Virginia Medical School Emergency Department Exchange Program

During the period 28th November 2018 to 5th December 2018, the Emergency Department (ED), San Fernando General Hospital hosted two (2) doctors from Eastern Virginia Medical School, USA – Dr. Carol Mc Cammon, Director of International Emergency Medicine Fellowship Programme and Dr. Lipika Bot a Fellow at the school and a practicing ED Physician. After consultation with her nursing management team extended an invitation for nurses from SWRHA to visit Eastern Virginia Medical School in the USA.

Smoking is a “gateway” to developing or worsening other diseases such as heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer.

Dr Albert Persaud, acting CEO of the South West Regional Health Authority, gave that warning on Wednesday at the launch of the SWRHA’s smoking cessation clinic at C3 Centre, San Fernando.

On July 4, 2019, I was a patient at the Accident and Emergency Department and thanks to the staff for their assistance and swift response to my needs.

Temporary Closure of Roy Joseph Health Centre

Kindly be advised that due to the spraying exercise which was conducted last Friday the Roy Joseph Health Centre will temporarily close at 12:00 noon, today, Monday 5th August, 2019 to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.

The South-West Regional Health Authority apologises for any inconvenience caused due to this temporary disruption of services. Healthcare services will resume on Tuesday 6th August, 2019 at 8:00 a.m.
