HICS Training for SFGH/SFTH

The Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) is a management tool that is used to manage emergencies & disasters within a hospital setting. On July 5th, 2019 Mr. Keston Joseph, Disaster Coordinator at the SWRHA, conducted HICS Training for the Disaster Committee Members of the San Fernando General and Teaching Hospital. This session was done in accordance with the SWRHA Disaster and Crisis Management Policies to enable committee members to utilise the HICS principles to strategically plan and develop response protocols that can be implemented when emergencies and/or disasters occur.

Temporary closure of the Erin and Palo Seco Health Centres

Kindly be advised that the Erin Health Centre and Palo Seco Health Centre will be closed early on Monday 29th July, 2019 from 12:00 noon due to a planned power outage in the area by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission.

SWRHA welcomes Student Volunteers

The South-West Regional Health Authority welcomed five student volunteers from the Ministry of Health’s Student Volunteer Programme on July 22nd, 2019. These third-form students from the Tableland High School and St. Stephen’s Secondary School spent their first two-days at the SWRHA, touring the San Fernando General and Teaching Hospital Campus and participating in an Orientation Session at Level 3 Conference Room, San Fernando Teaching Hospital.

Temporary Closure of Roy Joseph Health Centre

Kindly be advised that the Roy Joseph Health Centre will be temporarily closed at 10:45 a.m. on Friday 2nd August, 2019 to facilitate spraying of the facility by the San Fernando City Corporation. Walk-in clients are advised to visit the Pleasantville Health Centre during this time.  

The South-West Regional Health Authority apologises for the inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption of services. Healthcare services will resume at Roy Joseph Health Centre on Monday 5th, August, 2019.

Temporary Closure of Granville, Cedros and Icacos Health Centres

Kindly be advised that the following Health Centres will be temporarily closed for the period indicated to facilitate spraying exercises by the Insect Vector Control Division:

What is the combined monthly hormonal injection?

It is monthly injectable form of birth control. It releases two hormones similar to the hormone oestrogen and progesterone that are produced by the ovaries.

This form of contraceptive is very reliable and effective. When used correctly and on time, less than 1 pregnancy per 100 women may occur over the first year (5 per 10, 000 women). As commonly used, 3 pregnancies per 100 women occur.

This has become necessary to facilitate works at the centre.
