Good News: Commendation dedicated to Ms. Stacy Walcott of the San Fernando General Hospital Paediatric Clinic

I recently had an appointment at the Paediatric Clinic at San Fernando General Hospital and, to my amazement, there were two older gentlemen at the counter waiting for assistance. These men were talking so loudly while waiting for their turn, but they weren’t sure where they needed to be.

What stood out to me was so amazing, a young, vibrant employee by the name of Stacy Walcott, who is attached to this unit, got up from her seat when the two men reached in front of her and proceeded to the front where they were standing.

SWRHA at MoH’s Technical Scoping Mission

Dr. Ricardo Naraynsingh, Head of the Emergency Department Ag., at the San Fernando General Hospital was selected to be a part of the Ministry of Health’s Technical Scoping Mission to Howard University, Washington D.C. for the period July 22nd to July 26th, 2019. The Mission aimed to improve the perception of and enhance the quality of healthcare in Emergency Rooms throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Howard University was chosen based on its expertise in both health service delivery and academia.

SWRHA’s Ophthalmology Department partners with John A. Moran Eye Centre

The South-West Regional Health Authority’s Ophthalmology Department partnered with the John A. Moran Eye Centre to perform 155 cataract surgeries over a five-day period. The Moran Eye Centre team from Utah, USA, comprised 21 persons, inclusive of six surgeons as well as registered and scrub nurses, technicians volunteers and diplomatic staff.

The Princes Town District Health Facility celebrated Emancipation Day on July 26th, 2019 with a lively programme to observe the contributions made by African ancestors to the culture and fabric of Trinidad and Tobago. Staff gathered to the call of the African drums and songs led by Mr. Twelde Matas, Health Records Clerk and his drumming team. The programme commenced with an interactive presentation from Dr. Kavi Ali, on Emancipation who highlighted the richness of the African heritage and the history of African slaves in Trinidad and Tobago.
