Let’s get Sugar Smart, National Nutrition Awareness Week Health Fair

SWRHA’s Nutrition and Dietetics Department hosted their National Nutrition Awareness Week Health Fair - From farm to table: Let food be thy medicine, at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital on June 12th, 2019. It was a nutrition education and information campaign in keeping with the theme “Let’s get sugar smart”. The activities included: food displays, samples, body composition analysis, chair yoga and the judging of the poster competition – Slash the Sugars.

ED Research Competition

The second edition of the Emergency Department (ED SFGH) Research Competition took place on May 31st, 2019. The goal of this research competition was to gather data that would help improve care and service to patients by adding to the local body of knowledge which can affect, guide policies and decision making with evidence based medicine.

Ste. Madeleine Senior Citizens celebrate Indian Arrival Day 2019

Staff at the Ste. Madeleine Health Centre and members of the Ste. Madeleine Health Centre Senior Citizens Recreation Camp celebrated Indian Arrival Day on May 28th, 2019. Dr. Melissa Bachan moderated the event, which featured greetings from Mr. Shawn Premchand, Councillor for Corinth/Cedar Hill, Ms. Sylvia Douglas and Ms. Patricia Granger- PCNMs, an educational and inspiring presentation on Ageing and Self-Esteem by Dr. Sandi Arthur- PCP II, chutney instrumentals by Mr. Rawle Mootilal, traditional Indian songs from Pandit Vishwandath Maharaj and chutney tunes from Mr. Heeralal Rampartap.

Supermarket Visits- Promoting Healthy Food Choices

Supermarket visits continue in County Victoria.  Subsequent to their visit to Massy Stores, La Romaine in May, the multidisciplinary SWRHA team toured the JTA Supermarket at C3 Centre on June 3rd, 2019. The team, comprised Ms. Jochelle Mohammed, Registered Dietitian and two dietetic interns, Diabetic Educators- Mr. Raffick Mohammed and Ms. Merna Patrick Ryan and District Health Visitor, Ms. Erica Joseph-Christom. Members of the Ste. Madeleine Health Centre’s Senior Citizens Recreational Group also joined the tour through the supermarket.
