In recognition of World Diabetes Day 2018, members of the Couva District Health Facility’s Diabetic Group engaged in discussion and interactional presentation with Ms. Anica Sanoir, Diabetes Lifestyle Coach. Ms. Sanoir spoke to the audience of approximately 30 persons on healthy eating, low glycaemic high fibre foods and the importance of being active and losing weight.
After typhoons, heavy rains and flooding, the potential risk of disease increases, such as water-borne diseases, (e.g. typhoid fever and leptospirosis) and vector-borne diseases (e.g. malaria, dengue).
Globally there are 425 million cases of type 2 diabetes and with one out of every two persons undiagnosed it has become necessary to highlight the impact of diabetes on the family. Bearing these statistics in mind the staff of the Princes Town District Health Facility collaborated with the Lions Club Princes Town to host World Diabetes Day Health Fair on the Princes Town Promenade on Wold Diabetes Day November 14th.

The Community Liaison Unit commemorated World Diabetes Day by hosting an aerobic burnout, health fair and poster competition on Thursday 15th November, 2018. The staff promoted the theme the family and diabetes by highlighting the important role of the family in addressing the physical, emotional and economic impacts brought on by caring for diabetic persons.
