San Fernando. 6th December 2018. The South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) wishes to advise that there was a delay in the opening of the Debe Heath Centre earlier today. This was regrettably due to the late arrival of the contracted security personnel dedicated to opening the facility. The SWRHA’s Security Department was immediately alerted and the Health Centre was subsequently opened at 9:15 a.m.

The staff at the Couva District Health Facility and the Couva Diabetic Support Group hosted their World Diabetes Day programme on Friday 30^th November, 2018. Adhering to the theme The Family and Diabetes they highlighted concerns over the continued growth in the number persons being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and offered solution as to how this epidemic and its complications can be managed through family support and healthier lifestyle choices.

The Emergency Department, Area Hospital Point Fortin will experience some disruption in service during the period Friday 07^th December (5:00 p.m.) to Monday 10^th December 2018 (8:00 a.m.).

This has become necessary to conduct termite treatment at the department.

On Saturday 24^th November, 2018 the La Romaine Health Centre in conjunction with the La Romaine Diabetic Support Group hosted their 4^th Annual World Diabetes Day Walkathon, aerobic Burnout, Health Education Session and Health Fair. These activities were in keeping with the theme The family and diabetes and brought much needed attention to the psychological and economic impact of diabetes on families. Attendees were able to access free influenza vaccine shots and health screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, BMI.

Please be advised that the Maternity Ward (Ward A) at the Area Hospital Point Fortin will experience some disruption in service during the period Friday November 30th 2018 8:00 p.m. to Monday December 03rd 2018 8:00 a.m.

This has become necessary to facilitate termite treatment in this area.

During this period maternity cases are asked to seek treatment at:

• San Fernando General Hospital or
• Siparia District Health Facility
