When some persons hear the word ’Cancer’, they are often left stricken with the feeling of fear, far more than the fear evoked by other illnesses such as heart attacks, strokes and diabetes which can have agonizing effects on the body. Every day, our bodies naturally kill cancer cells but sometimes one cell escapes the body’s natural defense system and this ‘rogue’ cell continues to multiply with no regard to the space around them. This is how malignant tumors are formed. In previous years, there have been significant improvements in cancer detection, cancer therapy and palliative care.
In an effort to promote better patient/pharmacist communication, the Pharmacy Department of the San Fernando General Hospital is hosting a ‘Brown Bag Medicine Review’ in commemoration of Pharmacy Week. The Brown Bag Medicine Review encourages the clients of the pharmacy to bring all their medication and supplement (including herbal medication) in a bag and the client gets to interact one on one with a pharmacist. The Wardsmaids Department culminated Wardsmaids Appreciation Month 2018 with their Appreciation Ceremony on September 28th, 2018 at Level 3 Conference Room, San Fernando Teaching Hospital. Approximately 80 wardsmaids from various health facilities throughout SWRHA as well as the St. James Medical Complex, Tobago Regional Health Authority and St. Anns Hospital attended the event aimed at recognising the hard work and dedication of the nation’s wardsmaids.
It is with deep regret the South-West Regional Health Authority joins the national community in mourning the passing of one of our icons, Ken “Professor” Philmore who passed away earlier this morning. “Professor” succumbed to his injuries while warded at Intensive Care Unit, San Fernando General Hospital following a vehicle accident last Monday.
