The Pathology Laboratory will host their second Continuing Education Session at the Pathology Lab Conference Room at 1:00 pm on Thursday 28th April, 2016. This is a part of their week of activities celebrating Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, which is annually celebrated to appreciate and raise awareness of Lab Professionals and their integral roles in the healthcare system.

Clients and members of the wider community are invited to join the staff at the Rochard Douglas Health Centre as they commemorate World Health Month and Vaccination Week in the Americas with a Health Fair on Tuesday 26th April, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Papsmear screening, vaccinations, HIV testing, lecture session on Diabetes and food demonstrations by staff of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department will be offered. World Health Day was celebrated on April 7th, 2016 under the theme, “Beat Diabetes”. Vaccination Week in the Americas will be celebrated from April 23rd to 27th, 2016.

On Tuesday 26th April, a Continuing Education Session will be held at the Pathology Lab Conference Room at 1:00 p.m. to commemorate Medical Laboratory Professionals Week (MLPW). These sessions comprise lecture discussions on health and wellness from staff at the Nutrition and Dietetics Department. At 1:00 pm, Jeopardy Champions 2015, SWRHA Lab Professionals Group will battle other Lab Professionals from health institutions across the country in the preliminary round of their MLPW National Jeopardy Competition at Amphitheatre B, Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
New Exercise Programme at La Romaine Health Centre

Dozens of persons joined Mr. Junior Bailey, Aerobics Instructor from the Five O’ Clock Krew in an hour-long aerobic session at the La Romaine Health Centre’s Carpark on Monday 4thApril, 2016 when the Integrated Diabetes Team in conjunction with the La Romaine Diabetes Support Group launched their new exercise programme.

World Health Day at Lengua Health Centre

In celebration of World Health Day, the staff of the Lengua Health Centre hosted a World Health Day fair on Wednesday 6th April, 2016. This programme, steered by Ms. Salima Ali, District Health Visitor, and Ms. Ameeda Hasmath, District Nurse, administered a holistic approach to the event.

Ste. Madeleine HC Senior Citizens Recreational Camp's Excursion

Think back to the last time you were in line at the supermarket impatiently waiting for an elderly lady to finish cash for her groceries as she told the cashier about the last visit from her son four months ago. Would you have felt differently had you known that this would be her only social interaction for the week? Social isolation of the elderly is a growing problem in developing countries, which often leads to loneliness, depression and fear. Numerous studies have linked loneliness with poor health and early death.

Conversations with the Youth 1 at Ste. Madeleine Health Centre

Today, youths have many fascinating questions about puberty, their body image and even about their nutrition. On Tuesday 5th April, 2016 staff of the Ste. Madeleine Health Centre, health professionals and the young people of the Ste. Madeleine community gathered together to discuss topics affecting youths. The purpose of this event is to engage youths in discussions on life and health issues. Hence the theme chosen by the staff of the Ste. The SWRHA’s Integrated Diabetes Team in conjunction with the La Romaine Diabetes Support Group will launch their exercise programme on Monday 4th April, 2016 at 3:00 pm. The inaugural exercise session will be conducted in the La Romaine Health Centre Car Park from 4:30 pm to 5:30pm and continue every Monday and Thursday. It aims to engage persons in exercise and promote healthy lifestyle changes as a part of the fight against diabetes. Come out and support this worthy venture! Easter Treat for Paediatric Patients at SFTH

The Rapidfire Kidz Foundation (RKF) in conjunction with the San Fernando City Council (SFCC) gave the children on Paediatric Medical and Surgical Wards, San Fernando Teaching Hospital, an Easter treat on Wednesday 23rd March, 2016. Each child was given a toy and a story book. This annual event serves as an opportunity for the RKF and SFCC members to bring cheer by distributing toys, and interacting with these warded children.
