The South-West Regional Health Authority welcomed its new Board of Directors on Friday 15th January, 2016. Eight directors received their instruments of appointment from the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, at the formal installation ceremony at the Eric Williams Medical Science Complex.
The new SWRHA Board of Directors comprise:
Mental, neurological and substance use disorders are highly prevalent and burdensome globally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (2011), un-treated mental disorders exact a high toll on the world’s population, accounting for 13% of the total Global Burden of Disease (GBD). By the year 2020, unipolar major depression would be at number 2 in the GBD.
The Honourable Minister of Health, Terrance Deyalsingh, brought Christmas cheer to the children on the Paediatric Wards at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital, when he paid a surprise visit to the hospital on Tuesday 22nd December, 2015. Minister Deyalsingh interacted with staff and presented gifts to approximately 40 children. Christmas, the season of great joy and festivities, has come again. Homes have been cleaned and decorated, the Christmas tree is standing tall, gifts have been bought and the Christmas menu has already been planned. Christmas is undoubtedly a celebration – a celebration of life.
