The Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health and the Honourable Faris Al-Rawi, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, visited the Blood Bank and Oncology Department at the San Fernando General Hospital on Wednesday 11th May 2022. They were joined by Ministry of Health staff, as well as members of the SWRHA’s Board of Directors and Executive Management team.  

A letter of commendation was extended to the Oncology Department of the San Fernando General Hospital via a letter to the Express Newspaper dated Sunday 25th February, 2018. The Letter reads: Please allow me space to make my observations known since as a people, When we are dissatisfied with a service, everyone will know; however, great service is hardly or never recognised.

The SWRHA Palliative Care service started as a volunteer-based initiative under Drs. Akenath Misir and Dylan Narinesingh in 2011, and continues today under Dr. Keshav Gyan as Consultant in the Oncology Outpatient Clinic at San Fernando Teaching Hospital. The clinic sees patients referred in-house from the Oncology Unit. The Medical and Surgical teams also avail themselves as needed for patients who require outpatient follow-up.
