Second Bridging the Gap between Primary and Secondary Care Workshop

The Secondary and Primary Care Departments hosted their 2nd Bridging the Gap between Primary and Secondary Care Workshop on March 24th, 2018 at the Level 3 Conference Room, San Fernando Teaching Hospital. These Workshops were designed to connect healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care and improve service delivery in the South-West Region. Approximately 60 healthcare professionals attended this year’s workshop which featured presentations centred on The Diabetic Foot and Wound Care.

Dr. Reshma Maraj, Primary Care Practitioner I, started the day’s proceedings with her presentation entitled Wound Care Management in Primary Care. Dr. Sean Perot, Head of Adult Medicine focused on the Clinical Evaluation of the Diabetic Foot. Dr. Vinoo Bheem Head of General Surgery, highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary, team approach to wound care and outlined the management of the diabetic foot in the hospital setting. Diabetic Educator/Counsellor from the Community Liaison Unit, Ms. Susan Joseph-Lopez, explained the role of Diabetic Counsellors and their approach to educating diabetic patients on proper foot care. Each presentation ended with discourse on methods to improve care for diabetic clients in the South-West Region.
