The SWRHA Launches the Trinidad and Tobago Association for the Improvement of Mental Health

​The Trinidad and Tobago Association for the Improvement of Mental Health, was launched on the 4th of August, 2017. This advocacy group aims to promote human rights and reduce stigma and discrimination against persons with mental disorders. Their mission entails the promotion of Mental Health Awareness so that persons can experience a high quality of life. The members of this group comprise Imam Sheraz Ali, Pandit Avinash Maharaj, Dr Darin Mohammed, Mrs. Andrea Ragoonath-Gopaul, as well as Ms. Caron Asgarali. In attendance at the launch, was Mrs. Gail Miller Meade, Chief Executive Officer (Ag.) , Dr Karen Ghany, Head of Psychiatry; Mr. Pooran Sankar, Regional Manager Psychiatric/Mental Health Services and Dr Celia Ramcharan, Senior Medical Officer at the Child Guidance Clinic. Mrs. Meade expressed her support for the advocacy group, wishing them the best and commending them on their efforts to bring to light the issues associated with persons with mental illness in Trinidad and Tobago.
