HICS Training for SFGH/SFTH
The Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) is a management tool that is used to manage emergencies & disasters within a hospital setting. On July 5th, 2019 Mr. Keston Joseph, Disaster Coordinator at the SWRHA, conducted HICS Training for the Disaster Committee Members of the San Fernando General and Teaching Hospital. This session was done in accordance with the SWRHA Disaster and Crisis Management Policies to enable committee members to utilise the HICS principles to strategically plan and develop response protocols that can be implemented when emergencies and/or disasters occur.
As part of their training the committee members participated in a simulated exercise that required them to perform in their respective capacities as they would be expected to during a real incident. Mr. Jaishima Gowandan, Regional Coordinator from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) shared his expertise about the dynamics of coordinating the management efforts for accidents, emergencies and natural disasters in real time situations especially when there is little or no room for mistakes.
