County Victoria Healthy Me Camp

The staff of the County Medical Office of Health Victoria in conjunction with staff from the South-West Regional Health Authority hosted their third day of Healthy Me Camp on Wednesday 20th July, 2016 at the Pleasantville Community Centre. Approximately 40 students between the ages of seven and 13 from county Victoria attended this year’s event. The camp was held from Monday 18th July to Friday 22nd July, 2016. The focus of the camp was to influence healthy lifestyles in children who are overweight and show signs of obesity.

On the third day of the camp, Ms. Nindra Ramsanny, Dental Nurse at Pleasantville Health Centre engaged the students in a collaborative lecture about taking proper care of your teeth. She allowed the students to use a teeth mannequin to demonstrate the proper way to brush their teeth. At the end of her lecture, a movie entitled “Tooth City” was shown to reemphasize what Ms. Ramsanny taught the students. Ms. Cynelle Vincent, Registered Dietician at the South-West Regional Health Authority, performed a skit on healthy eating and interacted with the students along with her supportive colleagues. She also gave a lecture on nutrition and balancing a healthy diet. The students were given the opportunity to make a healthy chow with a combination of fruits and vegetables and compete in their groups. At the end of the day, representatives from the Trinidad and Tobago Jump Rope Federation demonstrated to the students the technique of jumping rope to burn calories.
