Media Release: Health Minister congratulates Outstanding Staff 

On the eve of International Nurses Day 2022, two nurses at the San Fernando General & Teaching
Hospital (SFGH/TH) received tokens of appreciation, for their outstanding service to excellent
customer experience, from the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh M.P., Minister of Health. Nurse
Margaret Alexander and Patient Care Assistant Jenniel Burton Adams relived their interaction with
a three year old patient along with his mother, who visited and received superior care at the
SFGH/TH’s Emergency Department and ward on April 24th, 2022.

In presenting the tokens, during a visit to the Hospital on May 11, 2022, the Minister noted that he
was “overjoyed and delighted when I read a Letter to the Editor, published in all three daily
newspapers from the patient’s mother who recounted her satisfying experience at the Hospital”.
As the Minister of Health “I made it my priority to visit you to say thank you for your dedication
to providing your patients with the best care possible”. Accompanying the Minister, was the
Honourable Faris Al-Rawi M.P., Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, along
with members of the SWRHA’s Board of Directors and other senior executives of the Ministry of

While at the Hospital, both Ministers also visited and interacted staff at the Blood Bank and
Oncology departments to reassure and update on the Ministry of Health’s focus on the realignment
of the Blood Bank services, in keeping with international standards and best practices.
Additionally, the Ministry will soon roll out a comprehensive national strategy to manage NonCommunicable Diseases amongst the population.
