Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs) continue to be the leading causes of death in Trinidad and Tobago. The SWRHA has embarked on initiatives to encourage individuals to become involved in healthy practices which include increased physical activity, regular and adequate consumption of fruits, vegetables and water and the early detection of chronic conditions like diabetes mellitus and hypertension by screening asymptomatic individuals. On April 28th, 2019, the SWRHA hosted Get ‘Hill’ Ready at the C3 Centre. After sunrise, on April 28th, 2019, SWRHA staff joined members of the public in an energetic aerobic session to motivate persons to increase their physical activity and awareness of the benefits of exercise. Persons also received blood sugar and pressure testing, fruit and water. Get ‘Hill’ Ready launched the Take it to the Top initiative which entails Sunday morning treks up the San Fernando Hill.
