About SWRHA

At the SWRHA, we are pleased to offer primary and secondary healthcare services. Our primary care services can be accessed at any of our health centres in the south-west region, while secondary care services are available at the San Fernando General and Teaching Hospital and the Point Fortin Hospital. 

The San Fernando General and Teaching Hospital is located on Independence Avenue and Chancery Lane. The Hospital's main entrance is located on Chancery Lane opposite the streetlights. The Hospital Campus houses Outpatient Clinics, the Emergency Department, ICU, HDU, diagnostic services, pharmacy services, as well as adult medical, paediatrics and surgical wards.

The Point Fortin Hospital is located at the corner of Techier and Point Fortin Main Roads, Point Fortin. The 110-bed facility provides clients with accessible emergency, specialised, surgical, general medicine, burns, paediatric, mortuary, in-patient and out-patient clinic services. The main entrance is located on the Techier Main Road.

Our Responsibility

The South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) is one of five (5) existing Regional Health Authorities established by the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago under Act No. 5 of 1994 as part of Government's efforts through the Health Sector Reform Programme to decentralise the management and provision of health care in Trinidad and Tobago. The SWRHA is responsible for the administration and management of the San Fernando General and Teaching Hospital, Point Fortin Hospital, Area Hospital Point Fortin, Princes Town District Health Facility, Couva District Health Facility, Siparia District Health Facility and 33 health, outreach and extended care centres located throughout the region.

History

The South-West Regional Health Authority was established in 1995. We are committed to providing our patients and visitors with the highest quality of services both within the hospital setting and online.

District Health Facilities

There are three District Health Facilities within the South-West Region that provide health care for clients with medical cases that require additional or specialised treatment. These facilities comprise a health centre and emergency department. Services include primary care, specialist sessions, diagnostic services and 24 hour emergency care.
