In keeping with this year’s theme “Young people and Mental Health in a Changing World” staff of the Psychiatry Department celebrated World Mental Health Day with a Youth Symposium at the Naparima Bowl San Fernando on October 10th, 2018 aimed at educating youths on mental health issues and empowering them to make positive choices when faced with challenges.

Approximately 350 Secondary School Students attending schools in San Fernando and environs were exposed to presentations on topics such as Self Harming Behaviour, Social Media, Substance Use and Abuse and Bullying. The winners of the Mental Health Essay Writing Competition were also announced during the Symposium. World Mental Health Day is celebrated annually on October 10th and aims to heighten the level of awareness of mental health issues and mobilize efforts in its support.
