Community Health Series in New Grant

SWRHA's Community Health Series commenced in New Grant at the Persad Supermarket's Carpark on January 17th, 2019.                                  

The team comprising of doctors and nursing staff from the Indian Walk Health Centre exposed approximately 100 persons from the New Grant Community to health presentations centred on making healthy lifestyle choices which can positively affect future generations and Influenza. Ms. Sandra Alleyne, District Health Visitor, also delivered a brief presentation on the importance of immunisation. 

In her presentation Dr. Sandi Arthur, Primary Care Practitioner II warned persons of the harmful effects of high consumption of sugar. She encouraged pregnant mothers to exercise during their pregnancy, follow a meal plan which incorporates foods from all the food groups and drink eight or more glasses of water per day. She also took the opportunity to urge women to visit their nearest health centre for Pap Smears. Dr. Melissa Bachan, Primary Care Practitioner II answered questions on Influenza, highlighting how the flu is spread, precautionary measures such as hand washing and identified high-risk groups. 

The Flu vaccine was administered to approximately 80 persons. The Community Health Series will be visiting the New Grant Community on January 24th, 2019 at the same location from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
