Celebrating Motherhood at Williamsville Health Centre
Staff at the Williamsville Health Centre hosted a Mother’s Day programme for the expectant mothers in the Antenatal Clinic on May 13th, 2019. It was about celebrating motherhood and bringing attention to postpartum depression, a mental health condition that can occur after childbirth. As a tribute tokens were distributed all the female members of staff and expectant mothers.
District Health Visitor Nurse Sharon Moore, reminded her audience that motherhood was a gift and it should not be taken for granted because the decisions taken can either make or break a child. Nurse Moore urged mothers to enjoy being mothers and emphasised to the fathers present that they were an integral part of their families’ support systems.
In the feature presentation delivered by Mr. Feroze Abdool, Mental Health Officer, four types of postpartum depression were identified: Postpartum Depression Baby Blues, Postpartum Depression, Postpartum Psychosis, and Postpartum in Men. Mr. Abdool outlined the signs, symptoms, risk factors and treatment options available.
