Pathology Department celebrates Medical Lab Professionals Week 2019
The Pathology Department launched Medical Laboratory Professionals Week celebrations with an Opening Ceremony at the Pathology Lab on April 23rd, 2019. Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is commemorated annually from April 22nd to 28th. The Week recognises the magnanimous contributions of laboratory professionals to healthcare institutions, highlights the vital role of pathologists and lab professionals to healthcare and patient advocacy and aims to increase the public awareness of their role in clinical diagnostics and medicine. The theme adopted by the Pathology Department is “We are the Science behind the Medicine”.
In her feature address at the Opening Ceremony, Ms. Seromanie Rampersad-Debideen, Manager Quality Improvement applauded the hard-working staff at the Pathology Department, “At the SWRHA, we conduct an average of 2000 investigations per day. Over the past 4 years investigations done at the SWRHA approximate 1.2 million per year.” She encouraged the Pathology Team to “continuously revisit [their] practice to ensure international standard and improved processes are achieved”, and urged the staff to “harness their inner strength, self-motivation and drive, and ‘be like a stem cell…differentiate [themselves] from others.’”
The Pathology Laboratory Week of Activities includes a Public Outreach at the San Fernando General Hospital Foyer on Thursday 25th April, 2019, a Closing Ceremony on Friday 26th April, 2019 at the Pathology Lab and will culminate with a Cricket Competition at Naparima College Cricket Grounds, Lewis Street San Fernando on Saturday 27th April, 2019.
