World Hand Hygiene Day 2018: Hand Hygiene in Healthcare

On May 4th, 2018 staff of the Infection Prevention and Control unit hosted their annual World Hand Hygiene Day public outreach at the San Fernando General Hospital foyer under the World Health Organisation’s theme “It’s in your hands – prevent sepsis in healthcare”. The focus was on helping persons understand the importance of washing their hands using the right techniques for minimising the risk of contracting infections that can possible lead to life-threatening conditions.

There were live hand washing demonstrations, brochure distribution, quiz and 3M International was present with their Glow machine to check people’s hands for germs and bacteria before and after they washed their hands. This year’s Hand Hygiene participants draw was won by:

1st place – Sandra Ramsaran, Clerical Assistant, SFGH Inpatient Pharmacy

2nd Place – Bernadette James-Arnaud, ENA, Community Liaison Unit

3rd Place – Lu-Ann Cato-Daniel, Radiographer, Radiology Department

4th Place – Ruth Delpino – Cook, SFGH Main Kitchen
