World Diabetes Day with CLU

The Community Liaison Unit commemorated World Diabetes Day by hosting an aerobic burnout, health fair and poster competition on Thursday 15th November, 2018. The staff promoted the theme the family and diabetes by highlighting the important role of the family in addressing the physical, emotional and economic impacts brought on by caring for diabetic persons. To effectively manage diabetes it take daily support from family and the adoption of self-management practices by way of treatment, monitoring, diet, exercise, lifestyle choices and ongoing diabetes education.

The health fair was tailored with a multidisciplinary approach to help  persons learn about proper nutrition, mental health and coping with stress, understanding medication, diabetes counselling, foot care and health screenings – blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol.

The winners were:

Aerobic Burnout:

  • 1st Place – RN Sabita Maharaj, Ward 14B
  • 2nd place – Ms. Sherryann Marchan, Seamstress, Sewing Room

Poster Competition:

  • 1st Place – Quality Improvement Department
  • 2nd Place – Pharmacy Department
  • 3rd Place – Ward 14B
