On May 5th every year the world is asked to join in celebrating the work of midwives and midwifery. The idea of the International Day of the Midwife (IDM) was borne through the efforts of the International Confederation of Midwives following discussions among Midwives Associations.

The International Day of the Midwife is an occasion for every individual midwife to think about the many others in the profession, to make new contacts within and outside midwifery, and to widen the knowledge of what midwives do for the world.

The theme for IDM 2017 is "Midwives, Mothers and Families: Partners for Life!” Midwives everywhere understand that by working in partnership with women and their families they can support them to make better decisions about what they need to have a safe and fulfilling birth.

In my role as President of Trinidad and Tobago Association of Midwives as well, as the General Manager, Nursing SWRHA, I join the world in recognizing the hard work of our midwives and wish you all a HAPPY MIDWIVES DAY!!
